The Feast

Paola

Feast of Christ the King

Paola celebrates its principal festa in honour of Christ the King on the last Sunday of July, transforming the town into one of the most vibrant centres of summer celebrations in Malta. The festivities combine solemn religious ceremonies with lively street celebrations, including band marches, fireworks displays, and the procession of the titular statue through the decorated streets surrounding the basilica.

In recent years the feast gained special significance when the statue was solemnly crowned by Archbishop Charles Scicluna, marking the centenary of the liturgical feast established by Pope Pius XI. The crown itself travelled from Seville to Paris and the Vatican before arriving in Paola, symbolising the community’s devotion to Christ the King.
