Paola

Located just a few kilometers south of Valletta, Paola, also known as Raħal Ġdid meaning “New Town,” is a charming urban centre in Malta’s Southern Harbour region. The town was founded in 1626 by Grand Master Antoine de Paule, from whom it takes its name.

Over the centuries Paola developed into an important residential and commercial hub, closely linked with neighbouring localities such as Tarxien and Fgura. The town is also home to several landmarks of national significance, including the prehistoric Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
