Feast of Corpus Christi
Rabat’s celebration of Corpus Christi is held in late June. It honours the Holy Eucharist, which tradition holds was introduced to Malta by St Paul himself. In the morning, First Holy Communion children join a peaceful procession after Mass, followed later by a grander evening procession led by the Collegiate Chapter of St Paul and several community groups, including the Scouts and the Arch Confraternity of the Sacrament.
One highlight during the feast is the infjorata, a temporary carpet of colourful flower petals arranged into intricate religious designs on the church parvis. During the feast, music is played by the Soċjetà San Pawl Banda Konti Ruġġieru, one of Malta’s oldest band clubs, named after Count Roger of Normandy, whose red-and-white banner is said to have inspired Malta’s national flag according to legend.
