St Dominic (San Duminku), born in Spain in 1170, founded the Dominican Order, dedicated to preaching, education and spreading the Christian faith. Known for his devotion to prayer, learning and helping others, he remains an important figure in Catholic tradition. In Birgu (Vittoriosa), St Dominic is honoured as one of the city's two patron saints, alongside St Lawrence. His feast is celebrated annually on the last Sunday of August, bringing the community together through religious ceremonies, processions, band marches and traditional festivities.
