Mqabba

St Basil’s Church

One of Malta’s few surviving medieval rural churches, St Basil’s Church stands as a reminder of Mqabba’s earliest parish life. First mentioned in the 15th century, the church was enlarged several times between 1486 and 1515 and originally served as Mqabba’s parish church when the locality gained parish status in 1598. Its simple rectangular form, pointed Siculo-Norman arches, and rose window reflect the island’s medieval architectural influences.
