Ghar Dalam Cave & Museum
Għar Dalam, meaning “Cave of Darkness,” is Malta’s oldest prehistoric site and a vital window into the island’s ancient past. Inside its layered chambers lie Ice Age fossils of dwarf elephants, hippopotamuses, and deer — species long extinct from Malta. The cave also reveals traces of the island’s earliest human settlers, with Neolithic tools and pottery dating back over 7,000 years. Both a natural wonder and an archaeological treasure, Għar Dalam offers a rare glimpse into Malta’s environmental and human evolution.
